Bass Player Magazine, Star Bass Feature

Hey there, friends!

As we head into Fall 2020, it’s nice to hear some good news (especially when it comes to music) so for those of you hip to Bass Player Magazine, I’m thrilled to say that I was featured in this month’s issue!

Star Bass Feature: Nashville Session Bassist

In preparation for the piece, I got to review a handful of records that I’ve contributed to as a “Nashville Session Bassist.” I was tasked with picking five albums and providing insight about each one. The only disappointing thing was that I wanted to include 10 records ;-)

Anywho, it was enjoyable going down memory lane, sharing anecdotes with the editor of the magazine, and highlighting some of the records that, in my opinion, are pretty, pretty, pretty good.

Top Five List

  • Purple House by Robben Ford (guitar master and boss man)

  • Listen by Kyshona Armstrong (the most genuine, soulful, and creative person I know)

  • The Interludes by The Interludes (my instrumental trio)

  • Wildflowers In The Graveyard by Amber Rubarth (a singer-songwriter with a beautiful heart)

  • Reimagination by Lamont Dozier (composer of countless Motown hits)

Top Ten List

Just for fun, here’s the additional five that didn’t make the cut… this time. Nevertheless, these are records that I simply loved working on, and that are worth listening to:

Anywho, it was an honor to be included in this magazine for the second year in a row. You can check out the PDFs below, but if you don’t get the magazine, I encourage you to grab yourself a new subscription…Why, you may ask?

Well, starting next month, I will officially be a contributor!

Writer & Contributor for Bass Player Magazine

Bass Player is about to release its 400th issue (whoa…), and I’m honored to say that I’ll be contributing a new bass lesson for each issue. The theme of the series will be “I Spy” and will discuss the importance of “spying” techniques implemented in real-time on the records we love. The piece will include a handful of technique exercises to coincide with the column theme. Hopefully, these bass techniques will become part of your practice routine!

As always, keep reading, listening, practicing, and enjoying music!
