This class is all about defining time, establishing groove, and answering the question: “what is the pocket?”
As a member of the rhythm section, the way we interpret tempo, time keeping, and feel will determine how the band sounds. We’ll discuss these concepts and more as we explore:
Playing on, ahead, and behind the beat
Recognizing how tempo impacts the way we groove
Strategies for practicing to metronomes and drum tracks
Ways to establish a rhythmic framework
Paying attention to note duration and feel
Understanding what it means when someone says “the pocket”
You’ll receive a PDF at class time that will outline the discussion and contain TAB/Notation for practicing later.
The class will take place via Zoom and will run approximately 90 minutes. When you purchase this ticket, you’ll receive a downloadable invite with the zoom link, plus a reminder email the week of.
Once the live class has concluded, all ticket purchasers will receive a link to the zoom recording to re-watch the class or view it at your leisure.
